The Department of Criminal Cases was established on October 3, 1995.
Anita POĻAKOVA is the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases.
- Anita Poļakova graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia in 1988.
- She was elected the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate in 2020. She has been a judge of the Supreme Court since 2007.
- Prior to that, she was a prosecutor of the Criminal Cases Division under Court Examination of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Latvia, a prosecutor of the Criminal Law Department of the Prosecutor's General Office, a sworn advocate, and a judge of the Riga Regional Court in 1999–2007.
- She has been a member of the Disciplinary Court since 2015.
The Department of Criminal Cases consists of the Chair and seven judges.
Each judge in the Department of Criminal Cases has a personal assistant.
Three legal research counsels and a consultant also work in the Department.
Office work of the Department is ensured by the Chancery of the Supreme Court.
