Department of Civil Cases

The Department of Civil Cases was established on October 3, 1995.

Normunds SALENIEKS is the Chair of the Department of Civil Cases.

  • Normunds Salenieks graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia in 1997.
  • He has been a judge of the Supreme Court since 2005; he has been a senator in the Department of Administrative Cases, since 2010 – a senator in the Department of Civil Cases. In 2020, he was elected the Chair of the Department of Civil Cases.
  • Prior to work in the Supreme Court, he was a judge in the Riga City Central District Court and in the Riga Regional Court. He has served in the Disciplinary Court and in the Judicial Ethics Commission.
  • Prior to joining the judiciary, he worked for the police, prosecutor's office and in a bank.

 

The Department of Civil Cases consists of the Chair and thirteen judges.

Each judge in the Department of Civil Cases has one or two personal assistants.

Three legal research counsels and a consultant also work in the Department.

Office work of the Department is ensured by the Chancery of the Supreme Court.
